Pi-CNG

The Presidential CNG Initiative (Pi-CNG) is a component of the palliative intervention of the Presidency directed at providing succor to the masses occasioned by the transitive hardships of the fuel subsidy removal policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Sequel to the removal of the PMS subsidy and the full deregulation of the petroleum products market, the price of PMS has increased significantly. As such there is a need to consider alternative sources of fuel, primarily CNG and EV for vehicles.

About the program

The Conversion Incentive Program is the FGN Program to either provide FREE or Heavily discounted conversions to commercial or ride share drivers in Nigeria.

The FGN through the Presidential CNG Initiative is Implementing a Commercial Vehicle Conversion Incentive Program (CV-CIP) that provides for FREE conversion (labour inclusive) of union registered vehicles in major cities where conversion program has been activated in Nigeria as well as ride-share vehicles, who operators can benefit from a 50% discount.

Our Objectives

Deployments: The initiative is not a pilot, rather it is an initial roll-out to stimulate the adoption of CNG for transport in line with the national policy on transportation already adopted. It is an end to end approach to CNG utilization to reduce costs and carbon emissions.

Cheaper Gas: The key objective is to drive down and manage transportation costs for Nigerians by utilizing the cheaper gas alternative that is abundant but currently underutilized in Nigeria.

Cleaner Emission: An incremental objective is to deliver cleaner alternative to PMS and Diesel fuel for transportation, and as such meet the Nigeria’s National Determined Contributions commitments while capturing a precious resource that is currently being flared.

Job Creation: In implementing the program, create jobs and transfer technology locally for our teeming youths and women by supporting auto manufacturing, retrofit and conversions as well as in the development of critical gas distribution, processing and production infrastructure and facilities.

Investments: Stimulate investments in Nigeria’s abundant gas market and develop sustainable markets for gas locally while growing the economy and expanding the government’s revenue base.
