The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) was established pursuant to the National Citizens Centre Act 2017 with mandate to identify the needs of senior citizens and to cater for them. It is the first distinct national corporate body with focus on social inclusion of senior citizens in sustainable development and the improvement of the quality of living and well-being for self-fulfilment.
NSCC is to identify opportunities for trainings to enhance capacities of senior citizens, initiate, facilitate and implement educational, health and social programs, productive activities and work schemes in order to provide income or otherwise supplement earnings of senior citizens. NSCC is to also ensure, the provision of recreation, sports and counselling programs, all aiming to enhance, dignity, independence, security and care of Nigeria’s senior citizens.
NSCC MANDATE
- Identify the needs, trainings, and opportunities of senior citizens in the country and be responsible for the provision of recreational, sports, educational, health and social programs and facilities designed for the full enjoyment and benefit of the senior citizens in the country as well as provide guidance and counselling for senior citizens.
- Initiate, develop and implement productive activities and work schemes for senior citizens in order to provide income or otherwise supplement their earnings.
- Promote and maintain linkages with State and local governments services, facilities, professional advice services and training.
- Identify the needs, trainings, and opportunities of senior citizens in the country and be responsible for the provision of recreational, sports, educational, health and social programs and facilities designed for the full enjoyment and benefit of the senior citizens in the country as well as provide guidance and counselling for senior citizens.
- Initiate, develop and implement productive activities and work schemes for senior citizens in order to provide income or otherwise supplement their earnings.
- Promote and maintain linkages with State and local governments services, facilities, professional advice services and training.
- Keep records and statistics of senior citizens in the country as well as liaise with national, regional and international agencies involved in the provision of welfare and recreational activities for senior citizens.
- Perform such other functions which are necessary to achieve out the purpose for which the centres are established.

MISSION: To engage strategic multi-sectoral partnerships and data application to identify needs of older persons and initiate, facilitate and effectively coordinate programmes and services to carter for the needs of older persons and improve the quality of life and wellbeing of older persons while promoting intergenerational synergies and economic growth opportunities.
OVERALL GOAL: To improve the quality of life and wellbeing of older persons in Nigeria for enhanced self-fulfilment.
