NOTN

The Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN} is the institutional framework and foundation for Nigeria’s trade policy infrastructure. It will prepare and update Nigeria’s trade policy in a rapidly changing global economic landscape, so as to maximize Nigeria’s gains from trade. It will align domestic trade policy priorities to changing global reality.

Mission: The NOTN

  • Negotiates integrated trade and investment agreements that forge strategic partnerships, regionally and globally, to modernize the Nigerian economy, and design global supply chains that drive growth, create jobs and expand markets for Nigerian exporters of goods and services.
  • Negotiates the elimination of discriminatory treatment against Nigerian goods, services and operators in foreign markets.
  • Serves to strengthen the open rules-based multilateral trading system and global economy.

The Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN) is an Agency of Government, legally domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (MITI)

The NOTN is the institutional framework and foundation for Nigeria’s trade policy infrastructure. It will prepare and update Nigeria’s trade policy in a rapidly changing global economic landscape, so as to maximize Nigeria’s gains from trade. It will align domestic trade policy priorities to changing global reality.

Mandate: The NOTN (INDUSTRY) negotiates integrated trade and investment agreements that forge strategic partnerships, regionally and globally, to modernize the Nigerian economy, and design global supply chains that drive growth, create jobs and expand markets for Nigerian exporters of goods and services. The NOTN negotiates the elimination of discriminatory treatment against Nigerian goods, services and operators in foreign markets. The NOTN serves to strengthen the open rules-based multilateral trading system and global economy.

The Nigerian office for trade negotiations is mandated to:

  • Prepare and Update Nigerians trade policy in a rapidly changing global economic landscape, so as to maximize Nigerians gains from trade.
  • Align domestic trade policy priorities to changing global reality and also act urgently.
  • Stop and reverse the failure and costs from the uncoordinated positions from MDAs in trade-related negotiations.

The NOTN shall have government wide responsibility for the conduct and management of Nigeria’s trade policy and lead Nigeria’s trade negotiations. The Ministry of Justice shall be the depository of all agreements and shall establish a comprehensive digital depository for trade and economics agreements with a read –only access by MDAs with competent jurisdiction.
